The Year of The Flirtations
2008 has been an eventful year so far for Earnee, Shirley and Vie of The Flirtations. Firstly, Earnee recently turned 60 on July 18th. For those that think that 60 is the age of unwinding and taking life at an easier pace, then think again. Their recent photo session, premiered exclusively in Soul Stars magazine, clearly show that the girls are glowing, content and enjoying life to the full and they have good reason.

Many readers will find it hard to believe that all of these glamorous ladies will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of their group, The Flirtations next year.

This year, however, has marked a change in their image, with radically new hairstyles and a sexier and raunchier image to their stage act. For fans who came to see them live at the Northern Soul weekender at The Anglesey Showground on June 28, the reception to their new image was overwhelming. Many commented on the force of energy, vocal intensity and visual impact that they conveyed live on stage.

However, it is their distinctive vocal harmony that distinguishes The Flirtations from the rest.

When Vie left the group in 1972 to pursue a successful solo career as "Pearly Gates", the harmonious sound of the group changed. When she returned to the group in 1992, the distinctive sound of The Flirtations that made them famous was there again. The girls are unique in the fact that they are all the original line up of members, suggesting an inseparable bond, kinship and harmony that few other bands ever manage to achieve.

Secondly, 2008 has also marked a year of an impressive three new releases.

"He’s A Saint, He’s A Sinner" was released early this year by Ian Levine for the "Disco 2008" album. Their latest single entitled "Camouflage", also by Mr. Levine, has recently been released on the "Northern Soul 2008" album.
